Genre Tables

These are the Genre Tables. You can swap out any three prompts for a word of you choice, the important thing is that the Crack!Fic Table is filled full of Crack!Fic, and the Angst!Fic Table is filled full of Angst!Fic and so forth, please don’t let me find a Crack!Fic in your Angst/Hurt-Comfort Table.

Slash/Femslash If you’ve claimed General series you can do this table for both if you want. You don’t have to provide over the top graphic smut, but there must be at least some hint of Slash.

03.We Shouldn’t04.Watched

Het-Slash Again, you don’t have to write graphic sex scenes, but we need at least a hint of something going on.

    Gen-Fic Keep it clean.

Pounce!Porn A sub-genre of PWP that I’m shamelessly pimping in order to increase it. Remember, one of the parties must be clueless about the other’s intentions until it’s too late.

01.All Work And No Play…02.Surprise!
03.There’s Something On Your Face04.Nobody’s Looking
05.People Are Staring06.Quick, In Here!

09.Where Did That Go?10.You’re Gorgeous When You’re Angry

Cross-Over You can swap out any and all of these prompts for other TV shows/Books/Movies/Comics. The Cross-Over is the important part ;)   (Edit:  You can write up to three fics per crossover 'verse, BUT it must be three separate stories, not three chapters of the same fic.)

01.Dr Who02.Heroes
03.Quantum Leap04.Supernatural
05.Firefly06.Star Gate
07.X-Files08.Battlestar Galactica

07.What If…?08.What If…?

Meta/Mind-Bend provided by vibishan    You can swap out three of these tables for a surrealist situation which fits the theme of the table, or an essay on an aspect of canon/fanon/meta.
01.Character(s) reading fanfiction02.Character(s) writing fanfiction
03.Character(s) discover significant spoilers for their own canon events04.One Character discovers/realises the fictionality of their universe and a way to communicate with their creator(s)

07.A story told in epistolary format between two (or more) characters who are both (or all) lying to each other08.A story told from the POV of a Character who turns out to be dead
09.A story in which the universe is two dimensional10.A story with an unsolvable paradox

Macro Tell a story using screencaps from your chosen fandom.

Graphic Tell the story in the form of a graphic novel or comic strip. There is no minimum word count on this, although the comic must have a narrative of some kind. You can draw it yourself or collaborate with an artist, but please credit the artist appropriately.

(Auto)Biography Write ten biographical fics for your Character(s), possibly in the form of memoirs. The fictional story should be handled as if it's non-fiction. Like the AU table, his one is going to be different for every fandom, so it's free choice.

Non-Fiction  This is something a little different for a fic challenge, I'm looking for non-fiction entries about your claim. Again, it's free choice, because it will be different for every fandom, but this is your chance to write that report on the science of superpowers or magic, make reference to the works of Shakespeare or Monomyths, or just explain why a particular character speaks to the fandom. Have fun.
01.Free Choice02.Free Choice
03.Free Choice04.Free Choice
05.Free Choice06.Free Choice
07.Free Choice08.Free Choice
09.Free Choice10.Free Choice

Taster Table If you fancy a shot at most of the Genres listed, but don’t think you’re up to writing ten fics per Genre, here’s a taster table so you can have a go at ten of them. Pick one of the prompts available on the tables for each Genre, you can swap out any of these prompts for another genre listed on this page.

01.Slash (m/m, f/m or f/f)02.Gen
07.Plot? What Plot?08.Pounce!Porn

I has a question.

(and it might be because I have terrible organizational skills, and this is all so very confusing to me... :/)

If we were to do the taster table, and we have to do 2 genre tables, doesn't that mean at least one of our prompts will be repeated?
Nov. 12th, 2007 11:08 pm (UTC)

you can repeat it if you want, same prompt, different story, but for the genre tables you're allowed to swap out three words. So for the taster table you have to pick an existing prompt, but when you then do the main table you can pick a word to replace the one you've used :D

Er... by het-slash, do you mean hetero pairings? Because slash means homosexual pairings, so this is a little confusing...
Dec. 31st, 2007 05:03 pm (UTC)
yeah, tat's exactly what I mean. Is there a term for heterosexual pairings that don't necessarily exist in the show? Because I thought Het-Slash was the right wording...

I saw that we can write three separate fics per crossover 'verse. Does this also apply to AUs?
Jan. 18th, 2008 09:40 am (UTC)
With the AUs you are actually allowed to write all 10 stories in the same AU, provided it's a significantly different AU (ie, if I say to ten random readers 'is this AU or fanon' and they reply "AU, definitely"' then you're good). If you're only making tiny changes then use the three per AU rule.

does that help?

I have another ? Please, what is 'Crack.' I know it's not the drug I'm not that pathetic LOL
Mar. 25th, 2008 11:51 pm (UTC)
Wikipedia is your friend :)

A form of fan fiction in which characters are put in very random, nonsensical situations, and most often are all OOC[citation needed]. Its name, derived from the drugs, uses the irrationality from the drug high as an example of what to expect in the piece. Generally these are humor pieces.

"Crack!fic" should not be confused with "crack" being used as prefix (e.g. "crack pairing"). When used in this sense, the story may not be nonsensical or written with "OOC" characters at all, rather, it indicates that what is described with "crack" is not a commonly accepted or perhaps even thought-of element by fan fiction authors, or that the story may well be a work of parody.

I am aware I am being a pain by continually asking questions but I just want to make sure I'm doing things right!

When doing the crossovers you can come up with your own yeah? And can you use films as well as TV?

Thank you so much for your patience! =D

I was wondering; I can't choose whether to do Pounce!Porn or PWP, because they both sound fun and have some great prompts... Can I mix them together with the ones I like from both, since Pounce!Porn is a sub of PWP?

This is probably a stupid question but does the gen-fic table actually have to be gen (ie no relationships at all) or just no romance/smut in the actual fic? My main character is in a relationship - that's kind of the point of my series - but his lover is deployed overseas so the fics wouldn't be focussing on their romance, but it might get mentioned.
Mar. 24th, 2009 02:30 am (UTC)
Hi there

Yeah, the gen table has to be Gen, but TBH your definition of gen is a lot stricter than mine. We're using the Wikipedia one, so I'm quite happy to accept fics which contain relationships but don't focus on them for that table.

Hope that helps :)

Hi there

Sorry I didn't catch it before; you'd be fine claiming one of your AUs, as long as everything takes place in that AU (basically as long as your AU is treat like an original!verse claim, rather than as a way to spread your stories across ten different fandoms.)

Confused? I think so.
Alrighty, so I got a lot for you here.

For the AU table, is that the only table I can use non-canon pairings, and in my case since I write in the Twilight fandom, All-Human characters?

And, can you explain the difference between 'Inspired By' fics and Crossover fics?

Thank you so much!
Nov. 21st, 2011 05:38 pm (UTC)
Re: Confused? I think so.
You can use non-canon pairings for the whole lot, that's not considered to be AU in most fandoms.

One is inspired by something, the other is a cross over of two fandoms. You can be inspired by a song lyric, but you can't write a cross over with that lyric.
